The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Sunday (May 5) announced the final schedule of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, starting on October 3 in Bangladesh. The hosts will take on one of the qualifiers on the opening day, while South Africa will take on England, with Dhaka hosting both the matches. 

Besides, the marquee clash between two arch-rivals, India and Pakistan, will get underway on October 6 in Sylhet.

The defending champions, Australia, will open their campaign against one of the qualifiers on October 4 in Sylhet. 

“We are thrilled to announce the fixture schedule for the ninth ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. It will be great to have an ICC World Cup back in Bangladesh, a country with such a large and passionate fan base, who will be able to enjoy an ICC event first-hand,” ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said. 

Speaking on the same lines, Bangladesh Cricket Board CEO Nizamuddin Chaudhary said, “We take great pride in revealing the fixture schedule for the ninth ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Bringing an ICC World Cup back to Bangladesh is truly exciting, especially given the country’s immense fan base eagerly awaiting this prestigious event.”

Meanwhile, top sides Australia, India, New Zealand and Pakistan are drawn together in Group A with one qualifying side, while Group B consists of South Africa, England, West Indies and Bangladesh, alongside other qualifier side.

Women’s T20 World Cup details

Bangladesh will play hosts of this tournament for the second time in history, from October 3 to 20. 

A total of 23 matches will be played, with Group A teams to play their matches in Sylhet, while Group B teams will compete in Dhaka. The two semi-finals will take place on October 17 and 18 in Sylhet and Dhaka, respectively, and the final will be in Dhaka on October 20. 

Meanwhile, Australia is the defending champion, beating South Africa in the summit clash last year in Cape Town. 

As the qualifying teams are concerned, Sunday (May 5) will see two remaining spots getting filled, with Sri Lanka, UAE, Scotland and Ireland playing out the semis in Abu Dhabi.
