Beau Webster produced a career-defining innings as Warwickshire secured their first victory of the Vitality Blast season with a thrilling six-wicket win over Somerset in a high-scoring encounter at Taunton.

Chasing a daunting target of 216, the Australian allrounder smashed his maiden T20 century, blasting 112 from just 61 deliveries. His knock, featuring nine fours and seven sixes, laid the foundation for a remarkable chase that Warwickshire completed with two balls remaining.

Webster found excellent support from Dan Mousley, who played an equally crucial hand with an unbeaten 71 from 36 balls. The pair shared a match-winning partnership of 145 runs for the third wicket, taking the game away from Somerset after an early wobble in the chase.

Earlier, Somerset appeared to have posted a winning total after finishing on 215 for 4. South African batter Jordan Hermann starred with an unbeaten 90 from 48 deliveries, striking nine boundaries and six sixes in a superb display of power-hitting.

Captain Lewis Gregory then provided the late fireworks, hammering 55 not out from only 26 balls. His explosive partnership with Hermann yielded 117 runs from the final eight overs, lifting Somerset beyond the 200-run mark and putting Warwickshire under significant pressure.

Despite losing two early wickets, Warwickshire responded aggressively. Webster took charge of the chase, bringing up his fifty from 35 balls before accelerating further as rain briefly threatened to influence proceedings. He eventually reached his century in just 54 deliveries, keeping the visitors firmly on course.

Although Gregory eventually dismissed Webster with 25 runs still required, Mousley remained composed and guided Warwickshire home with a mature finishing effort. His unbeaten knock ensured the Bears crossed the line in dramatic fashion and finally opened their account for the campaign.

For Somerset, the defeat extended a worrying run of form. The defending champions have now suffered four consecutive losses despite consistently posting competitive totals, leaving them with plenty of work to do as the tournament progresses.

On a night dominated by big scores and aggressive strokeplay, Webster’s maiden T20 hundred proved the difference, helping Warwickshire break their winless streak in style.
