Dominant all-round display keeps Islamabad United in top-two contention while Kingsmen face qualification battle
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Islamabad United booked their place in the playoffs of the Pakistan Super League 2026 with a commanding eight-wicket win over Hyderabad Kingsmen in Karachi. Bowling Kingsmen out for just 80 — the fifth-lowest total in PSL history — United chased down the target with a massive 80 balls to spare, registering the biggest victory in PSL history in terms of balls remaining.
This emphatic win keeps United firmly in contention for a top-two finish. Their final league-stage position will hinge on the upcoming clash with Multan Sultans, who currently sit just one point ahead. Meanwhile, Kingsmen’s playoff hopes hang in the balance as they compete with Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings for the fourth and final spot.
The match at National Stadium Karachi saw Kingsmen collapse under relentless pressure from United’s bowling attack. Richard Gleeson led the charge with a fiery opening spell, striking in each of his powerplay overs and reducing Kingsmen to 24 for 3 early on. His disciplined hard-length bowling proved too much for the top order, dismissing key players including Marnus Labuschagne and Saim Ayub.
The pressure only intensified as Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim took control in the middle overs. Shadab broke a brief resistance by dismissing Kusal Perera and struck twice in quick succession, while Imad removed Glenn Maxwell, whose poor run in the tournament continued. Kingsmen never recovered, folding in just 16 overs despite a lone unbeaten effort from Usman Khan.
Chasing a modest target, United suffered an early setback with Devon Conway falling cheaply. However, debutant Mohsin Riaz and Sameer Minhas ensured there were no further hiccups. Mohsin’s explosive 42 off 18 balls, combined with Sameer’s composed 27*, powered a rapid 79-run partnership that dismantled the Kingsmen bowling attack.
The chase was wrapped up swiftly, with Shadab Khan hitting the winning boundary in the seventh over. The dominant performance underlined Islamabad United’s strong title credentials as they head into the playoffs with momentum firmly on their side.
