Kane Williamson, Jasprit Bumrah and MS Dhoni honoured among modern cricket’s greatest legends
Three modern-day icons — Kane Williamson, Jasprit Bumrah and MS Dhoni — feature in the latest rankings of the greatest men’s international cricketers of the 21st century.
Williamson earned recognition for transforming New Zealand cricket through his calm leadership, consistency and resilience under pressure. The former captain led New Zealand to their first global title by winning the inaugural World Test Championship in 2021 and also guided the side to the ODI World Cup finals in 2015 and 2019.
Known for his composure at No. 3, Williamson became the backbone of New Zealand’s batting line-up during one of the country’s most successful eras. Former team-mate Neil Wagner praised Williamson’s work ethic, adaptability and leadership, calling him a player who inspired everyone around him.
India fast bowler Bumrah was celebrated for redefining pace bowling across formats with his unique action, relentless accuracy and ability to thrive under pressure.
Since making his debut, Bumrah has become one of the most feared bowlers in world cricket, taking 486 international wickets at an average of 20.60. His record includes 234 Test wickets at under 20, 149 ODI wickets and more than 100 T20I wickets at an economy rate of just 6.39.
Former New Zealand pacer Shane Bond described Bumrah as the complete package, highlighting his unusual action, tactical preparation and ability to execute under pressure.
Meanwhile, Dhoni’s place among cricket’s all-time greats was cemented through his leadership, finishing ability and exceptional wicketkeeping.
One of India’s most successful captains, Dhoni guided the team to the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup and the top of the ICC Test rankings. Across formats, he scored more than 17,000 international runs and recorded 829 dismissals as wicketkeeper.
Former India captain Anil Kumble praised Dhoni’s composure, game awareness and unmatched self-belief, qualities that helped him become one of the finest finishers and leaders in cricket history.
