India qualified for the Super 8s with a tough seven-wicket win over USA at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York on Wednesday (June 12). With this victory, Rohit Sharma & Co. became the third team — after Australia and South Africa — to proceed to the next round. Thus, India are set to lock horns with Australia on June 24 as both sides will be in the same group in the Super 8s.
It is to be noted that the pre-seeding for the Super 8 stage was already decided by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Thus, India are set to lock horns with Australia on June 24 in a confirmed fixture. Rohit and Co. are seeded as A1, with Australia seeded as B2. Apart from Australia, India are likely to be joined by Afghanistan (C1) and Bangladesh (D2)

Talking about the India-USA clash, the former won the toss and opted to bowl first on a tough batting pitch in New York. Riding on Arshdeep Singh’s 4 for 9 and Hardik Pandya’s 2 for 14, the Men in Blue restricted USA to 110/8. In reply, USA made it tough for India with Indian-born Saurabh Netravalkar striking early to remove openers Virat Kohli and captain Rohit. From 10/2, India were further reduced to 39 for 3 before an unbroken 72-run fourth-wicket stand between Suryakumar Yadav (50 not out) and Shivam Dube (31 not out) took their side home in 18.2 overs.
Before the Super 8s, India have a game left in the group stage where they face Canada on Saturday (June 15) in Florida. They will also have an eye on their likely opponents — other than Australia — in the next round, which will be confirmed in the coming few days.
