India batter Rinku Singh has opened up on snub from the T20 World Cup 2024 squad and said that he missed out due to team combination. The left-hand batter has raised to prominence as a finisher in last couple of Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons where he plays for 2024 champions Kolkata Knight Riders.

“Yes, anyone feels a little bad if he is not selected despite good performance. However, this time I could not get selected due to the team combination. It is okay, one should not think too much about things that are not in one’s hands,” Rinku said in an interview with news outlet Dainik Jagran.

“Yes, I was a little upset in the beginning. Whatever happened is fine. Whatever happens happens for good. Rohit Bhaiya did not say anything special. He only said that just keep working hard. There is a World Cup again after two years. There is no need to worry too much. This is what he said to me,” he added.

Rinku’s IPL 2024 form might also have played a role in his snub. The batter could score only 168 runs in 14 games at an average of about 18 and a strike rate of 148. In 2023, Rinku was one of the star batters, scoring 474 runs at an average of almost 60 and a strike rate of nearly 150.

India are placed in Group A with Pakistan, Canada, Ireland and co-hosts USA. India start their campaign against Ireland on June 5 before taking on arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9. Their next match is against the USA on June 12 before facing Canada in last group-stage match on June 15.
