South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first against New Zealand in the fourth T20I in Wellington, as both teams introduced significant changes to their playing XIs. With the five-match series delicately poised at 2-1 in New Zealand’s favour, the match presents a crucial opportunity for both sides to assert control.

New Zealand have fielded a fresh-looking lineup, resting key players including Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, and regular captain Mitchell Santner for the final two matches. Stand-in skipper Tom Latham is also unavailable after suffering a thumb injury in the previous game. In his absence, allrounder Jimmy Neesham takes over captaincy duties.

The hosts handed a debut to Katene Clarke, who opens the innings alongside Tim Robinson, forming a new opening combination. Wicketkeeper-batter Dane Cleaver comes into the side, while Zak Foulkes replaces Ferguson in the pace department. The revamped XI reflects New Zealand’s intent to test bench strength while maintaining their series lead.

South Africa, on the other hand, have opted for a spin-heavy approach by including offspin-bowling allrounder Prenelan Subrayen, who makes his international debut. He joins captain Keshav Maharaj and George Linde to form a three-pronged spin attack, a strategic move considering Wellington’s conditions.

The Proteas have rested fast bowlers Nqobani Mokoena and Lutho Sipamla, bringing Ottneil Baartman back into the XI. They continue with their makeshift opening pair of Tony de Zorzi and Wiaan Mulder as they aim to post a competitive total.

Earlier, New Zealand’s women’s team secured a 3-1 series win over South Africa, adding momentum to the hosts’ cricketing dominance. With both men’s teams experimenting with combinations, the fourth T20I promises an intriguing contest between emerging talent and tactical adjustments.
