Sophie Luff continued her outstanding form with a second consecutive half-century as Somerset maintained their unbeaten start to the Vitality Blast with a commanding 39-run win over Yorkshire.

Leading from the front once again, the Somerset captain struck a fluent 58 packed with eight fours and a six to anchor her side’s impressive total of 177 for 5.

Opening the innings, Luff and Bex Odgers gave Somerset a flying start with a 68-run partnership inside eight overs. Odgers contributed a lively 30 from 25 balls before Luff carried on the momentum with another composed yet aggressive innings.

Anika Learoyd added quick runs with 35 from 28 deliveries, while Niamh Holland provided the late acceleration with an unbeaten 41 off just 27 balls as Somerset hammered 37 runs in the final three overs.

Yorkshire’s chase never truly recovered after an early collapse. Erin Thomas, Lauren Winfield-Hill and Jess Jonassen all fell cheaply as the visitors slipped to 29 for 3 inside five overs.

Sterre Kalis fought back with a spirited 51 from 35 balls, striking nine boundaries in a counterattacking effort, but she received little support from the other end.

Somerset’s spin attack kept tightening the pressure, with Lola Harris producing brilliant figures of 3 for 12 and Liv Barnes claiming 3 for 19 as wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals.

Yorkshire eventually finished on 138 for 9, handing Somerset another comfortable victory and extending their strong start to the competition.

With Luff leading from the front and contributions coming throughout the side, Somerset are quickly emerging as one of the teams to beat this season.
