Quetta Gladiators secured their first win of the PSL season with a dominant all-round performance against Hyderabad Kingsmen, powered by half-centuries from Shamyl Hussain and Hasan Nawaz, followed by a disciplined bowling effort led by Abrar Ahmed.

Defending a competitive total of 175 on a batting-friendly surface—where 215 and 172 had been successfully chased the previous day—Gladiators delivered a clinical display to expose the vulnerabilities in Kingsmen’s batting lineup.

The breakthrough came early when Alzarri Joseph struck in the opening over, dismissing Saim Ayub with a sharp bouncer. Despite conceding 17 runs in that over due to a couple of fortunate edges from Marnus Labuschagne, Gladiators quickly regained control. Abrar Ahmed then turned the tide by removing Maaz Sadaqat and Usman Khan, leaving Kingsmen struggling at 37 for 3 at the end of the powerplay.

Hyderabad Kingsmen never truly recovered from the early setbacks. Although Hassan Khan’s quick 31-run cameo briefly lifted hopes, his dismissal in the 15th over effectively ended their chances of a comeback. The Gladiators bowlers maintained consistent pressure, chipping away at the batting lineup to secure a comfortable victory.

Earlier, Quetta Gladiators had a shaky start after opting to bat first, losing two early wickets. However, a crucial 89-run partnership off 64 balls between young talents Shamyl Hussain and Hasan Nawaz revived the innings. Playing only his second PSL match, Shamyl showed maturity by balancing aggression with caution, especially after early dismissals of Saud Shakeel and Rilee Rossouw.

The duo relied on smart strike rotation and timely boundary-hitting to stabilize the innings. After their departure, Gladiators faced a brief collapse, losing four wickets in just 14 balls. Maheesh Theekshana, making his PSL debut, struck twice in consecutive deliveries to dismiss Khawaja Nafay and Ben McDermott.

A late flourish from Tom Curran, who scored 31 off 18 balls, pushed Gladiators past the 170-run mark, a total that proved more than sufficient given their bowling performance.

For Hyderabad Kingsmen, the defeat marked their second consecutive loss of the season. Their fielding woes remain a major concern, having dropped four catches in the previous game and conceding five no-balls—three from spinners—in this match, highlighting ongoing discipline issues.

With this win, Quetta Gladiators gain crucial momentum in the tournament, showcasing a balanced team effort with both bat and ball.
