Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named as a replacement for Riyan Parag in the India A squad for the upcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka after Parag was ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Parag had been managing the injury during the latter stages of the IPL season, but the issue has now forced him to withdraw from the India A tour as he focuses on recovery.

His absence comes as a setback after an impressive domestic and IPL campaign, during which he continued to establish himself as one of India’s most promising young all-rounders.

Gaikwad, meanwhile, earns an opportunity to return to national contention through the India A setup. The elegant right-hander brings valuable experience and leadership qualities to the squad, having previously represented India across formats and captained at the franchise level.

The Sri Lanka tri-series is expected to provide crucial game time for several players on the fringes of the senior national team, with selectors closely monitoring performances ahead of future international assignments.

While Parag begins rehabilitation on his hamstring injury, Gaikwad will look to make the most of his late call-up and strengthen his case for a return to higher honours with strong performances in Sri Lanka.
