Defending champions Lahore Qalandars kicked off their PSL 2026 campaign in style, securing a convincing 69-run victory over tournament debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen in the opening match. Delivering a complete all-round performance, the Qalandars showcased their dominance with both bat and ball, underlining why they remain one of the strongest teams in the Pakistan Super League.

After winning the toss, captain Shaheen Shah Afridi opted to bat first, a decision that paid immediate dividends. Openers Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Naeem provided a blazing start, stitching together an 84-run partnership in just 50 balls. Fakhar led the charge with a well-crafted half-century, putting early pressure on the Kingsmen’s bowling unit.

Hyderabad fought back during the middle overs, picking up four wickets and conceding only 47 runs in a seven-over stretch. However, the late surge from Haseebullah Khan and Sikandar Raza turned the momentum firmly back in Lahore’s favour. The duo added a quickfire 45 runs off just 21 deliveries, while Afridi capped off the innings in emphatic fashion with two towering sixes in the final over, pushing the total to a formidable 199.

In response, the Kingsmen never found their footing. The Qalandars’ pace attack struck early, with Shaheen Afridi and Ubaid Shah removing Usman Khan and Saim Ayub within the powerplay. The pressure mounted as Sikandar Raza and Haris Rauf dismantled the middle order, leaving Hyderabad struggling to build any meaningful partnerships.

Captain Marnus Labuschagne top-scored with 26, but lacked support from the rest of the batting lineup. With wickets falling at regular intervals, the Kingsmen were eventually bowled out for 130. The innings ended on a disappointing note with two run-outs, highlighting their struggles throughout the chase.

This dominant performance not only gives Lahore Qalandars a strong start to their title defence but also reinforces their status as serious contenders for yet another PSL crown.
