Premier League: Controversial Man Utd attacker Mason Greenwood won’t return to club – Getafe chief

Manchester United will have a huge summer to decide the future of several personalities at the club as the 20-time English champions go through another phase of transition. While Erik ten Hag’s future is still in limbo, Mason Greenwood will also face an uncertain future at the club as key decisions will be taken on whether he should continue at the club or not. However, according to Getafe President Angel Torres, Greenwood won’t return to the club and could continue with the Spanish side.

Greenwood to stay at Getafe?

“If it was up to the lad, his parents and the club [Getafe], I think he would continue for another year,” Torres told Radio Marca. “But regarding Manchester [United], the news that we have from last week where the [Getafe] sporting director went to England to see some games and was with them, is that if a good offer comes along, they would want to sell because he is not going to go back there [to Manchester].

Now 22, Greenwood was sent on loan to the Spanish side last summer after charges of rape were dropped on him. The Red Devils, however, did not take a hit on their reputation and attract criticism by keeping Greenwood at the club and instead sent him on loan at Getafe.

In January 2022, a criminal procedure was opened in England on Greenwood with him being implicated in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault relating to a woman after images and videos were posted online. Immediately after the case, United opted to drop Greenwood from the first team despite him being one of the players in top form for the club.

After the charges were dropped in February 2023, the Red Devils had a decision to make on the future of the player. It is understood, nothing is yet been decided on the player’s future at the club while a few reports also suggest new owner Jim Ratcliffe is ready to give the 22-year-old another chance.

Greenwood is not the only player facing an uncertain future, Jadon Sanchi on loan at Borussia Dortmund will also face an uncertain time at the club when he returns back in July. He has fallen out of favour with manager Ten Hag. Antony remains another player in the United dugout facing criminal charges, giving plenty of headaches to the new co-owners.
