West Indies produced one of their most dramatic T20I comebacks at Sabina Park, scoring 60 runs from the final 22 balls to snatch victory from Sri Lanka and clinch the three-match series 2-1.

After being under pressure for most of the chase, an unbeaten 54 from Sherfane Rutherford, a quickfire 33 from Rovman Powell and 32 from Shimron Hetmyer kept the hosts alive before Jason Holder’s explosive 21 off just five deliveries completed a stunning turnaround with two balls remaining.

Joseph’s five-for keeps Sri Lanka in check

Fast bowler Shamar Joseph delivered a career-best spell of 5 for 33, striking at crucial moments to restrict Sri Lanka to 169.

After Pathum Nissanka provided an aggressive start, Joseph dismissed him and Pavan Ratnayake in quick succession before returning in the final over to remove Dunith Wellalage, Dushmantha Chameera and Maheesh Theekshana.

His efforts ensured Sri Lanka managed only 15 runs from the final two overs despite being well placed earlier.

Wellalage shines for Sri Lanka

Dunith Wellalage continued his impressive form with a mature 43 off 28 balls, anchoring the lower middle order.

He stitched together a valuable 49-run partnership with Wanindu Hasaranga and helped Sri Lanka post a competitive total after early setbacks.

Dasun Shanaka also provided momentum with a brisk cameo, but Sri Lanka ultimately fell short of the 180-plus score they were targeting.

West Indies pull off an incredible chase

West Indies started brightly thanks to Shimron Hetmyer’s aggressive 32 off 19 balls, but Sri Lanka’s spin trio of Maheesh Theekshana, Wanindu Hasaranga and Dunith Wellalage tightened their grip during the middle overs.

At 110 for 4 after 16 overs, the hosts still needed 60 runs from 22 balls and appeared out of the contest.

Then came the game-changing assault.

Two expensive overs from Dushmantha Chameera went for 24 and 23 runs respectively, completely shifting the momentum.

Rutherford and Powell launched the comeback before Holder finished the job in spectacular fashion.
