Pakistan pacer replaces Peter Siddle as Middlesex sign New Zealand batter Matthew Boyle
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club have extended the deal of Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Ali to include the Vitality Blast after initially signing him only for the One-Day Cup and County Championship later in the season.
Ali, 33, arrives at Trent Bridge in impressive form following a strong Pakistan Super League campaign with Hyderabad Kingsmen, where he claimed 20 wickets and helped the franchise reach the final. His performances also earned him a place in ESPNcricinfo’s PSL Team of the Tournament.
The right-arm seamer has played eight matches for Pakistan across formats and most recently featured for the national side in March 2025. He also shares a previous working relationship with Nottinghamshire assistant coach Paul Franks from their time in Pakistan cricket.
Ali was brought into Notts’ T20 plans after Australian veteran Peter Siddle became unavailable due to participation in the World Legends Pro T20 League in Goa, which was classified as “disapproved cricket”.
Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores said Ali was the “obvious choice” to strengthen the squad ahead of the Blast campaign.
Notts begin their Vitality Blast season against Yorkshire in the North Group and will also have South African spinner George Linde as an overseas player.
Meanwhile, Middlesex County Cricket Club have signed New Zealand A batter Matthew Boyle for the competition.
The 23-year-old left-hander enjoyed an excellent 2024-25 Super Smash campaign, finishing as the tournament’s leading run-scorer. Boyle has scored 640 runs in 28 T20 matches at a strike rate above 150 and can also contribute with legspin.
Boyle will reunite with Middlesex head coach Peter Fulton, under whom he previously played for Canterbury in New Zealand domestic cricket.
Fulton praised Boyle’s aggressive batting and predicted a bright international future for the youngster, who joins South African allrounder Eathan Bosch as Middlesex’s overseas signings for the Blast.
