Lancashire secured a comprehensive 153-run victory over Essex in the Women’s Metro Bank One Day Cup, winning the battle between the bottom two sides at Blackpool. The emphatic result keeps Lancashire’s slim hopes of climbing the standings alive, while Essex suffered their eighth defeat of the 2026 campaign.

After posting a competitive total of 272/9 from their 50 overs, Lancashire produced a clinical bowling performance to dismiss Essex for just 119. The star of the match was Fi Morris, who registered a career-best 6/27, ripping through the Essex batting order and sealing a memorable win for the hosts.

Lancashire Build Strong Foundation With the Bat

Lancashire’s innings was anchored by Eve Jones, who scored 54 and became the first batter to cross the 500-run mark in this season’s Women’s Metro Bank One Day Cup. Opening alongside Emma Lamb (35), Jones helped lay a solid platform with a 67-run partnership, marking the pair’s 13th fifty-plus opening stand in 25 innings for the county.

The hosts continued to build momentum despite a couple of setbacks. Katie Mack was run out for 15, but Jones remained composed, reaching her half-century from 72 deliveries. She shared a valuable 55-run stand with Tilly Kesteven, who contributed a brisk 32 off 33 balls before falling to a spectacular one-handed caught-and-bowled effort from Bryony Gillgrass.

At 152/3 in the 30th over, Lancashire looked set for a strong finish. However, Anneke Bosch struck twice in quick succession, removing Jones and Ellie Threlkeld (21) to slow the scoring rate. Morris then chipped in with a useful 23, adding 55 runs alongside Seren Smale, who made an important 38.

Kate Cross also contributed 24 runs late in the innings, helping Lancashire reach 272/9. Esmae MacGregor was the pick of the Essex bowlers, claiming 3/44 from her spell.

Cross and Norris Strike Early to Dent Essex Chase

Essex’s pursuit of 273 never gained momentum as Lancashire’s pace attack struck early. Tara Norris trapped Lissy Macleod lbw with just the fourth ball of the innings, while Kate Cross removed Bryony Gillgrass and Ariana Dowse to leave Essex struggling at 26/3 after eight overs.

Anneke Bosch attempted to revive the chase with a fluent 32 that included five boundaries. However, her dismissal proved to be the turning point, as she pulled Morris straight to Seren Smale at deep midwicket.

Fi Morris Runs Through Essex Batting Order

Once Bosch departed, Morris took complete control of the contest. She quickly removed Jo Gardner (10) and Libby Heap (12), both caught by Cross at mid-on, reducing Essex to 82/6.

The wickets continued to tumble as Eva Gray and Esmae MacGregor also fell, with Lancashire maintaining relentless pressure throughout the innings. Morris completed her sensational six-wicket haul with the final ball of her spell, finishing with career-best figures of 6/27 and ensuring Essex were bowled out for 119.

Lancashire Stay in Touch With Mid-Table Rivals

The convincing victory provides Lancashire with a much-needed boost in the Women’s Metro Bank One Day Cup standings. While the team remains outside the top positions, the win keeps them within touching distance of the sides competing for third place.

For Essex, the heavy defeat extends a difficult campaign, with the visitors continuing to search for consistency after slipping to their eighth loss of the season. Lancashire, meanwhile, will take confidence from a complete team performance led by Eve Jones’ milestone half-century and Fi Morris’ match-winning bowling display.
