Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz has made it clear that his team will not take New Zealand national cricket team lightly, even though the visitors are missing several first-choice players. As both teams prepare for the ODI series, Miraz emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and consistency, while New Zealand skipper Tom Latham encouraged his squad to rely on their domestic cricket foundations.

Miraz, who has recently led Bangladesh to two consecutive ODI series wins, acknowledged that every international match carries significance—not just for results but also for rankings. He stressed that a series victory against New Zealand would be a major achievement and highlighted the strong team bonding within the Bangladesh camp.

On the other hand, Latham is approaching the series as an opportunity for his relatively less-experienced squad to step up. He believes that players should stick to the playing style and processes that have brought them success in domestic cricket. According to him, while the squad may lack experience at the highest level, every player has had some exposure to international cricket and understands its demands.

Latham also pointed out the challenges posed by Bangladesh’s bowling attack, particularly in home conditions. He acknowledged the experience of the pace trio featuring Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and rising star Nahid Rana, while also noting that spin could play a crucial role depending on pitch conditions.

Meanwhile, Miraz highlighted the need for Bangladesh’s batting unit to adapt to varying surfaces. Reflecting on the recent series against Pakistan, he noted that both teams experienced batting collapses, underlining the importance of game awareness and adaptability.

With both teams entering the series with different challenges and expectations, the contest promises to be competitive. Bangladesh will aim to capitalize on home advantage and recent form, while New Zealand will look to prove that their depth and domestic structure can deliver results on the international stage.
