CSA veterans Edward Khoza and Qondisa Ngwenya to lead planning and operations for the 2027 World Cup co-hosted by South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Cricket South Africa (CSA) has officially announced the appointment of Qondisa Ngwenya as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Edward Khoza as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 Local Organising Committee (LOC). The prestigious tournament will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe in October-November 2027.
Both appointments come after what CSA described as a “rigorous recruitment and selection process,” with the candidates receiving unanimous endorsement for their leadership capabilities and experience in sports administration.
Edward Khoza brings significant cricket administration experience, having previously served as CSA’s Head of Cricket Pathways. He was also involved during the Social Justice and Nation-Building (SJN) hearings in 2021 and later held the role of Executive of Domestic Cricket, showcasing his deep understanding of the game’s structure and operations.
Qondisa Ngwenya, on the other hand, comes from a diverse sporting and media background. Currently the President of Cycling South Africa, Ngwenya has also led Octagon, a television production company, adding valuable expertise in both sports governance and media management.
Trevor Manuel, Chairperson of the World Cup 2027 LOC Board, welcomed the appointments, highlighting their ability to deliver a global sporting event of massive scale. He emphasized that both Ngwenya and Khoza are well-equipped to execute the board’s vision of uniting the global cricket community, inspiring future generations, and creating a lasting legacy focused on sustainability and social cohesion.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 will feature 14 teams competing across 54 matches. Ten teams, including Full Member nations and hosts, will qualify directly, while the remaining four spots will be decided through a competitive World Cup Qualifier involving ten teams.
With strong leadership now in place, preparations for the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 are set to gain momentum as the host nations aim to deliver a memorable and impactful tournament on the global stage.
