John Cena opens up on retirement plans, admits ‘sun is setting on his WWE career’

A 16-time WWE champion John Cena has opened up on his retirement plans. The veteran in-ring superstar is now a part-timer for a few years, and considering his age, 47, he is unlikely to prolong his career in the business that made him the star he is today. Having last appeared on TV during the main event of Night 2 of WrestleMania 40, Cena is unlikely to stretch beyond a certain point.

A full-time Hollywood star now, Cena, in the latest interview with People, admitted the sun seems to set on his glorious career slowly.

Speaking on the same lines, Cena said fitness was always part of his routine even before the WWE happened, and he wants it to stay that way.

“I know my WWE journey is coming to an end, but fitness was a part of my life long before the WWE journey started,” Cena said in a chat with People.

“Fitness will be a part of my life, hopefully as long as my heart’s beating. So the WWE has been a great chapter in my life — it’s year 23 for me — and the sun’s setting on that chapter in the book, but fitness will never not be a part of my life,” the WWE superstar continued.

A standout performer!

A global superstar, Cena has had memorable feuds with some of the greatest wrestlers the industry has seen, including The Rock, JBL, The Viper Randy Orton, current WWE COO Triple H, CM Punk and several others.

Outside of winning the WWE championship for the joint most times (16), alongside legendary Ric Flair, Cena has held the United Championship five times and been the Tag Team winner twice. He’s also a two-time Royal Rumble and one-time Money in the Bank winner.

Commenting on his current physical and in-ring shape, Cena said, “I feel as if I am operating at my best. I would say from a spirit of [mind] and a body standpoint … I’m the best I’ve been in all 47 of my years on this earth.”

Meanwhile, early this year, Cena admitted that when he touches 50, he will hang his boots from WWE for good.

Would the company give him another shot at the world title and help him become the greatest performer and champion in its history? Time will tell.
