Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor Gautam Gambhir was left smiling and speechless after a fan asked him not to leave the side in future and dedicated a heartwarming to song to him. Notably, Gambhir returned to KKR in 2024 as mentor after seven years. He had previously been part of KKR as a player from 2011-17. The side had won two IPL titles during the time and made the playoffs five times.
In a video released by the KKR’s official X handle, a fan can be seen saying to Gambhir (not verbatim): “Please don’t leave us anymore. We can’t make you understand how difficult it was when you left us. I’d like to tell you the same in form of a Bengali song.” Have a look at the video below:

Gambhir’s return undoubtedly has changed the fortunes for KKR in the ongoing IPL 2024 season. The Knight Riders are currently at the top of the 10-team points table with eight win in 11 games.
KKR’s ongoing season has been on the track mostly due to West Indies all-rounder Sunil Narine’s performance with both bat and the ball. Narine has amassed 461 runs in 11 matches as an opener at an average of almost 42 and a strike rate of 183. He has also scored three fifties and one hundred in these matches. He’s the highest run-getter for his side in the ongoing IPL season.
As for bowling, Narine has also chipped in with 14 wickets in 11 games while maintaining a reasonable economy rate of 6.61. Narine is the second highest wicket-taker for his side in the ongoing season after Varun Chakravarthy who has 16 wickets to his name in 11 games.
While KKR’s place in the playoffs is all but certain, they’d be looking to seal a spot in the top two by winning at least two of their remaining three matches. In the playoffs, top two teams get a chance to directly enter the final by winning the first qualifier. The loser also gets another chance to make it to the final in the second qualifier match against the winner of eliminator game between the third and fourth place team.
