IPL 2024: WATCH | DC’s Rishabh Pant hits trademark ONE-HANDED six against CSK

Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant roared back to his old self with a 32-ball 51 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Indian Premier League (IPL) on March 31. Pant was 23 off 23 before unleashing himself and scoring the next 28 runs in just eight balls till being dismissed. Pant smashed four fours and three sixes in his innings.

During hitting one of the sixes, Pant’s bottom hand came off the bat but the ball still sailed over the boundary line – a trademark shot of Pant which he regularly played before his accident in December 2022. Have a look at the shot below:

Pant has returned to action in the ongoing IPL 2024 after spending 14 months in rehab following his accident. Pant’s onslaught in his second half of the innings was the reason behind Delhi Capitals posting 191/5 in 20 overs. DC eventually won the match, their first in the season, as they stopped CSK 20 runs short of the target.

Speaking about his innings after the match, Pant said:  “What I did was I took my time initially because I haven’t played much cricket in the last one-and-a-half to two years so I thought I have to give myself enough time. At the same time I kept believing that I could change the match at the end.”

The win over CSK, however, turned a bit sour for DC and Pant as he was fined for maintaining a slow over rate.

The league issued a statement on the incident which read: “Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals captain, has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash with Chennai Super Kings at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on March 31.”

“As it was his team’s inaugural offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct concerning minimum over rate violations, Pant was fined INR 12 lakhs,” it further added.

DC are now seventh on the points table with one win in three games.
