Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni turned back the clock during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Delhi Capitals on March 31. Dhoni scored unbeaten 37 off 16 balls after coming in to bat in the 17th over of the chase. CSK needed 72 runs of 23 balls when Dhoni faced his first ball which he sent for four towards square leg boundary.
In total, Dhoni hit four fours and three sixes, showing the glimpse of his old-time prowess. This was the first time Dhoni batted in the IPL 2024, sending the Vizag crowd into a frenzy. Dhoni also hit DC’s Anrich Nortje for two sixes and two fours in the last over of the match. Have a look at some of the shots below:

MSD’s innings, however, wasn’t enough for CSK to win as they lost the match by 20 runs. It was their first loss of the season after winning their first two games on the trot. CSK currently sit third on the points table with four points in three games.
As for DC, they posted an above-par total of 191/5 in 20 overs. Openers David Warner and Prithvi Shaw started with a full-fledged attack, adding 93 runs for the first wicket. After Warner (52) and Shaw (43 off 27) were out, skipper Pant took the onus of the innings, scoring 51 off 32 balls.
DC could have posted a bigger total had it not been for CSK bowler Matheesha Pathirana’s 3/31 in four overs, including a double-wicket over.
After the match, DC’s Pant was fined $15,000 (INR 1.2 million) for his team’s slow over-rate. “As it was his team’s inaugural offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct concerning minimum over rate violations, Pant was fined INR 12 lakhs,” read a statement from the league on the incident.
CSK next play SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 5 while DC take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 3.
