Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryll Mitchell then added 57 runs for the second wicket before Rahul Chahar dismissed Gaikwad (32) and Shivam Dube off consecutive balls in the eighth over. Mitchell too departed in the next over as CSK suddenly were down 75/4 from 69/1.
Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja then added 26 runs for the fifth wicket till PBKS skipper Sam Curran dismissed Ali for 17 off 20 and then Mitchell Santner was sent back by Chahar. Shardul Thakur was then promoted up the order ahead of Dhoni and he played a handy knock of 17 off 11, adding 28 runs for the seventh wicket with Jadeja and taking CSK to 150-run mark.
Harshal then cleaned up both Thakur and Dhoni in the 19th over before Jadeja, who scored 43 off 26, hit twin boundaries to take CSK to 167/9 in 20 overs.
