Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) tearaway pacer Mayank Yadav has revealed that taking care of his diet and recovery are key factors behind his pace. Yadav won his second Player of the Match award in as many Indian Premier League (IPL) games for a match-winning spell of 3/14 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 2.
He also bowled the fastest delivery of the season at 156.7 kmph, improving on his record of 155.8 kmph from the previous match. Yadav’s fastest delivery of the season is now fourth on the list of all-time fastest deliveries of the league. Ahead of him are Shaun Tait (157.7 kmph in IPL 2011), Lockie Ferguson (157.3 in IPL 2022) and Umrah Malik (157 kmph in IPL 2022).

Speaking on his performance after LSG’s 28-run win, Yadav said: “Feeling really good to get two Player-of-the-Match [awards] in two games but I’m more happy that we won both games. My aim is to do well for the country for as many years as I can. This is just the start, and my focus is on the main goal.”
The pacer also spoke about what helps him bowl at express speeds – a rare commodity in India.
“You need quite a few things to bowl at this pace – like diet, sleep and training,” Mayank said. “If you want to bowl fast, it’s important to be perfect in everything. My focus is on my diet, and also on my recovery – like [taking] ice bath.”
Yadav dismissed Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green and Rajat Patidar in the match. His wicket of Green was the highlight of it as he beat the Aussie by sheer pace to rattle his off stump after conceding a four on the previous delivery.
RCB skipper Faf du Plessis was also impressed with Yadav and praised him for his accuracy at high speed.
“Really impressive to see his pace. But more impressive for me tonight was his ability to control length and bowl with some really good discipline. That’s more impressing – pace combined with accuracy,” said Faf after his team’s third loss in four games.
With their second win three games, LSG now are fourth on the 10-team points table with four points. RCB, on the other hand, are ninth with only two points, just above Mumbai Indians who are yet to open their account.
