Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) hammered Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Wednesday (April 3) as they posted the second-highest total in the history of the tournament. Riding on the lethal batting display of Sunil Narine (85 off 39), debutant Angkrish Raghuvanshi (54 off 27) and Andre Russell (41 off 19), KKR beat DC by 106 runs in Vizag. KKR posted 272/7 in their 20 overs, which is the franchise’s highest total in the tournament.
KKR wipe floor with DC
Having batted first, KKR were at their fluent best after Sunil Narine was in great form in Vizag. The opening pair of Narine and Phil Salt (18) put together 60 runs for the opening partnership. However, it was the partnership between Raghuvanshi that laid the foundation for the second-highest total in the competition’s history. They posted the highest powerplay total of IPL 2024, helping KKR to 88/0 in six overs. They stitched 104 runs for the second wicket before Narine was dismissed.

With Russell and Rinku Singh (26 off 8) also joining the party, it looked like KKR would break Sunrisers Hyderabad’s record for the highest IPL total. However, a tidy 20th over from Ishant Sharma made sure the record stood for another day and KKR posted 272/7 in their 20 overs.
In response, DC were never in the contest with Rishabh Pant (55 off 25) and Tristan Stubbs (54 off 32) showing real fight. However, no big contribution from other players assured KKR to run riot and win the contest. DC were bowled out for 166 in 17.2 overs with Vaibhav Arora and Varun Chakaravarthy both scalping three wickets for KKR.

What next for KKR, DC
KKR next take on high-flying Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as they look to maintain their perfect start to the IPL 2024. They have so far beaten Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru before today’s contest. The contest against CSK will take place on Monday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
DC on the flip side take on rock-bottom Mumbai Indians who are yet to win a single game in the current season of the IPL. The contest will take place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai which will be huge in the context of gaining momentum.
