IPL 2024 Final, SRH vs KKR: Hyderabad get all out for lowest total in IPL final

SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) created history in the Indian Premier League (IPL), scoring the lowest team total in the final as they got bundled out for 113 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday (May 26).

The previous lowest total in an IPL final was 125/9 by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2013 edition of the tournament. CSK had scored that total against Mumbai Indians (MI) while chasing a target of 149. CSK lost the match by 23 runs.

The 2017 IPL final also saw two of the five lowest totals in final. Mumbai Indians had scored 129/8 in the 20 overs against Rising Pune Supergiant. In reply, MI stunningly defended the score as Pune managed 128/6 in the 20 overs – losing the final by one run. MI’s total is also the lowest total defended by a team in an IPL final.

In the IPL 2022 final, Rajasthan Royals faltered against Gujarat Titans and managed just 130/9 in 20 overs as GT went on to win their first title in their maiden season by seven wickets.

As for the 2024 final, it all started horrible for SRH as Mitchell Starc dismissed Abhishek Sharma with a ripper in the first over itself. The trauma didn’t end there for SRH as they lost swashbuckling opener Travis Head for a golden duck in the next over.

Starc also bowled the fifth over of the innings and dismissed Rahul Tripathi for the third SRH wicket in the powerplay. SRH finished the powerplay at 40/3 but the horror continued as KKR’s Harshit Rana, in his first over, removed Nitish Kumar Reddy. Next to fall was Aiden Markram as SRH lost fifth wicket for just 62 in the 11th over of the innings.

SRH’s hopes now relied on Heinrich Klaasen but Rana removed him in the 15th over to bring Hyderabad to its knees. Skipper Pat Cummins then walked out to bat and added 23 runs for the ninth wicket with Jaydev Unadkat.

The partnership was broken in the 18th over when Sunil Narine trapped Unadkat LBW. The innings got done in the next over with Russell dismissing Cummins without any addition to the team total.
