Hyderabad Kingsmen scripted one of the most dramatic turnarounds of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 season, storming into the playoffs with a commanding win over Rawalpindiz and eliminating defending champions Lahore Qalandars in the process. Overcoming a significant net run rate deficit, Kingsmen delivered a near-perfect performance to seal their spot in the top four.

Put in to bat after losing the toss, Kingsmen knew they needed a big total—and they delivered emphatically. Despite the early loss of captain Marnus Labuschagne, a blistering 28 off 11 balls from Maaz Sadaqat provided early momentum. Usman Khan and Kusal Perera then steadied the innings before Glenn Maxwell turned the tide with a much-needed return to form. Maxwell’s aggressive knock, combined with Perera’s composed fifty, powered Kingsmen to a formidable 244 for 6.

Rawalpindiz’s bowling struggled under pressure, with Mohammad Amir conceding 57 runs in his four overs—his most expensive spell in T20 cricket. Late fireworks from Hassan Khan ensured Kingsmen crossed the 240 mark, a total that gave their bowlers a realistic chance to overturn the net run rate equation.

Defending 244, Kingsmen needed to restrict Rawalpindiz to 158 or below—and despite a strong start from the opposition, they held their nerve. Rawalpindiz raced to 55 in the first five overs, with Saim Ayub and Akif Javed putting the bowlers under pressure. However, the game changed dramatically when Hunain Shah was introduced into the attack.

Hunain produced a match-winning spell, striking twice in quick succession to dismiss Mohammad Rizwan and Kamran Ghulam. His pace and accuracy dismantled Rawalpindiz’s middle order, finishing with outstanding figures of 4 for 22. Regular wickets from the supporting bowlers ensured the required run rate spiraled out of control.

Usman Khawaja fought valiantly with a well-timed innings, keeping Rawalpindiz in contention for a while. But sharp fielding efforts—including a stunning catch by Hassan Khan—and disciplined bowling from Maxwell and others tightened the screws.

The defining moment came in the 18th over when Hunain Shah returned to bowl a lethal inswinging yorker to dismiss Ben Sears, bowling Rawalpindiz out for 136. The emphatic 108-run victory not only secured Kingsmen’s playoff berth but also officially knocked Lahore Qalandars out of the tournament.

From losing their first four matches to making the playoffs, Hyderabad Kingsmen’s resurgence has been one of the standout stories of PSL 2026. With momentum on their side, the new franchise now heads into the knockout stage with renewed confidence and belief in their title chances.
