Late six-hitting seals dramatic chase after Andersson’s unbeaten 81 at Headingley

Yorkshire pulled off a sensational two-wicket victory against Derbyshire at Headingley, making it two wins from two in the Vitality Blast thanks to explosive late hitting from Hasan Ali and Andrew Tye.

Chasing 195, Yorkshire looked out of the contest at 139 for 8, still requiring 56 runs from the final 27 balls. But Hasan smashed 31 not out off just 13 deliveries, while Tye blasted 32 from 13, turning the game around with a stunning assault of boundaries and sixes to seal victory with four balls remaining.

Earlier, Derbyshire had posted an imposing 194 for 4 after Martin Andersson produced a career-best unbeaten 81. Jack Morley also starred with the ball, claiming 4 for 44 and taking two catches, but his efforts ultimately ended in vain.

Derbyshire made a steady start after choosing to bat, reaching 57 in the powerplay despite losing Aneurin Donald early to Hasan Ali. Caleb Jewell and Wayne Madsen departed soon after, reducing the visitors to 63 for 3.

Andersson then rebuilt the innings brilliantly alongside Matthew Montgomery, whose 35 helped add a crucial 73-run partnership. Andersson reached his fifty in just 36 balls and continued to anchor the innings before Ross Whiteley provided a late flourish with two sixes in the final over, which cost Yorkshire 24 runs.

Yorkshire’s chase began explosively as Adam Lyth hammered 31 off only 11 balls, including three sixes. But Derbyshire hit back quickly through Akif Javed, Morley and Nick Potts, leaving the hosts struggling at 52 for 3 after the powerplay.

Moeen Ali kept Yorkshire alive with a counterattacking 51 from 33 balls, launching five sixes, but regular wickets kept Derbyshire in control. Morley’s superb spell dismantled the middle order and left Yorkshire needing 62 off the final five overs at 133 for 7.

That was when Hasan and Tye produced one of the most dramatic finishes of the Blast season so far. Tye’s clean striking reduced the equation rapidly before Hasan finished the job in spectacular style to complete an unforgettable comeback win.
