Orla Prendergast to lead Ireland in tri-series against Pakistan and West Indies as Lewis recovers from injury
Gaby Lewis has been named captain of Ireland women’s national cricket team for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup in England, marking the first time she will lead the side at a global tournament.

Vice-captain Orla Prendergast will captain the team during the tri-series in Lewis’ absence.
Ireland have made only one major squad adjustment ahead of the World Cup, with fast bowler Jane Maguire ruled out through injury. Her sister, spinner Aimee Maguire, has recovered from injury and returns to both squads.
Ireland have been drawn in a challenging World Cup group alongside hosts England women’s national cricket team, defending champions New Zealand women’s national cricket team, Scotland women’s national cricket team, Sri Lanka women’s national cricket team and West Indies.
Ranked ninth in women’s T20Is, Ireland will open their campaign against Scotland in Manchester.
Lewis remains Ireland’s key batting figure heading into the tournament. She is currently ranked joint-14th in the ICC Women’s T20I batting rankings and was the leading run-scorer at the World Cup qualifiers earlier this year with 276 runs in seven innings.
Prendergast, ranked seventh among women’s T20I allrounders, will also play a crucial role alongside batter Amy Hunter.
