CWI CEO Jonny Graves said they were closely working with authorities to ensure everything falls in place.

“We work closely with authorities in the host countries and cities and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event,” Graves said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

“We want to assure all stakeholders that the safety and security of everyone at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is our number one priority, and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place,” Graves added.

As per the security agencies, “pro-Islamic State (IS) media sources have launched campaigns inciting violence against sporting events, which included video messages from the Afghanistan-Pakistan branch, IS Khorasan (IS-K), which highlighted assaults in numerous countries and urged supporters to join the battlefield in their countries.”

Meanwhile, the local media in the Caribbean, including Trinidad’s Daily Express, have reported that the island’s Prime Minister Keith Rowley has said the security agencies are working with all concerned departments to combat the security threat to the T20 World Cup.

He added that regional security officials are also on high alert, monitoring the situation.

As per the intelligence, the potential threat to the 20-team tournament came through the Pro-Islamic State (Daesh) media group “Nashir Pakistan”.

Gearing up for T20 World Cup

One of the newest additions to the ICC tournament, the T20 World Cup will get underway in the Caribbean and the USA from June 1 to 29.

While West Indies play the hosts of this event for the second time, having hosting it in 2010 when England won their maiden title, the USA is co-hosting it for the first time.

Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago will be venues in the Caribbean, while Florida, New York and Texas are chosen as three venues in the USA, with New York hosting the marquee clash between India and Pakistan on June 9
