Young allrounder earns T20 World Cup call-up after Delany injury blow

Alice Tector has been named as Delany’s replacement in the squad and will also feature in Ireland’s upcoming home tri-series against Pakistan and West Indies.
Delany’s absence leaves a huge gap in the side, with the veteran having represented Ireland in 75 ODIs and 132 T20Is during her international career.
“We are all devastated for Laura,” Cricket Ireland’s Director of High Performance Graeme West said. “She is one of the toughest competitors to have played for Ireland Women and we wish her a full recovery.”
Tector, younger sister of Ireland men’s batter Harry Tector, impressed in the Cricket Ireland Women’s Super T20 Series, scoring 109 runs at a strike rate above 118 while also contributing with the ball.
West praised the youngster’s resilience after overcoming her own injury struggles over the past year.
“Alice has shown great temperament since returning to cricket in 2026,” he said.
Ireland begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Scotland on June 13 in Manchester, with Tector now handed a huge opportunity on the global stage.
The squad will first take part in a home tri-series featuring Pakistan and West Indies as preparation for the tournament.
