‘The journey towards…,’ Gautam Gambhir shares next mission amid India coach job reports

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor Gautam Gambhir has revealed that his next mission is to make his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise the most successful one. His comments came amidst the report him being in race to be the new India men’s head coach.

“We are still two trophies away from MI and CSK. I am content today, but we are still not the most successful IPL franchise. To do that, we need to win the tournament three more times, and that will require a lot of effort,” Gambhir said in an interview to sports news platform Sportskeeda.

“Our next mission is to make KKR the most successful team in the IPL. There will be no better feeling than that. But, the journey towards that has only begun,” he said.

Gambhir had joined KKR ahead of the 2024 season and the franchise went on to win the IPL season. This was KKR’s third IPL title with two others being in 2012 and 2014. Notably, Gambhir was the skipper of KKR in both 2012 and 2014 title triumphs.

Gambhir, Jay Shas discuss India coach job

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has discussed the Indian men’s cricket team head coach job with Gambhir, according to a report in Cricbuzz.

Shah and Gambhir share the belief that the former Indian batter should take up the job to serve the country, the report noted.

Gambhir is known for his strict demeanour and has batted against the star culture prevalent in the current Indian cricketing setup.

Both Gambhir and Shah were also seen involved in an animated discussion post KKR’s final victory on Sunday (May 26). The report noted that Gambhir had already told those close to him, including KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan that he was seriously considering the job offer.
