Pakistan sealed their place in the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup 2026 after a commanding 102-run victory over Namibia at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. The emphatic win in their final Group A fixture ensured Pakistan advanced alongside India, officially completing the Super Eight line-up of the tournament.

From the group stage, India and Pakistan progressed from Group A, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe moved ahead from Group B, West Indies and England qualified from Group C, while South Africa and New Zealand advanced from Group D. With the first round wrapped up, the competition now enters a high-stakes Super Eight phase featuring the top eight teams battling for semi-final spots.

Super Eight Groups and Format

In the Super Eight stage, the qualified teams are divided into two groups of four. Group 1 consists of India, Zimbabwe, West Indies and South Africa. Group 2 includes England, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Each team will play the other three sides in their group once. Importantly, all teams will start with zero points, and net run rate from the group stage will not be carried forward.

Pakistan will begin their Super Eight campaign against New Zealand at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Saturday. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals, setting the stage for knockout action.

Semi-Final and Final Venues Confirmed

If Pakistan reach the semi-finals, they will feature in the first semi-final scheduled for March 4 in Colombo. Should they fail to qualify, that match will instead be played in Kolkata. The second semi-final is set to take place on March 5 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where India will play if they qualify.

The final of the T20 World Cup 2026 will be hosted in Colombo if Pakistan make it through. Otherwise, the title clash will be held in Ahmedabad. A reserve day has been allocated for both semi-finals and the final to account for weather interruptions.

Road to T20 World Cup 2028 Qualification

The eight teams that have progressed to the Super Eight stage have also secured automatic qualification for the 2028 T20 World Cup, to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. Australia have qualified automatically as co-hosts despite not reaching the Super Eight stage.

The remaining automatic qualification spots for the 2028 tournament will be decided based on ICC T20I rankings as of March 9, 2026, with Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Ireland currently set to claim those berths. The final eight places in the 20-team competition will be determined through regional qualifying tournaments.

With the Super Eight stage now confirmed, the T20 World Cup 2026 moves into a decisive phase as cricket’s top nations compete for a place in the semi-finals and a shot at the championship title.
