It is not good news for English cricket fans as their hopes of qualifying for the T20 World Cup Super 8 stage could take a real hit on Saturday (June 15). At the time of writing, England’s clash against Namibia is in a state of getting washed out with rain playing spoilsport in Antigua. If the situation does not change, England who are the defending champions of the T20 World Cup will bow out and join the likes of Pakistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand who have already packed their bags.

England in trouble
As things stand, England need two equations to go in their favour, which is Buttler and Co beating Namibia by any margin and then hoping Australia beat Scotland. If these sets of equations are met England will reach five points from four matches and qualify for the Super 8. However, if rain washes out either contest or Scotland beat Australia then Buttler and Co are out of the T20 World Cup 2024.
At the time of writing, rain had seen the toss get delayed with time running out for England to reach the T20 World Cup Super 8 stage. If rain continues to play spoil sport, England and Namibia will share one point each meaning England can reach a maximum of four points from their four matches and will no longer finish in the top two. Only the top two teams from each qualify for the Super 8 and will effectively end England’s hopes of retaining the T20 World Cup.
England could join Pakistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand
If England are on their way out, they will be the most unfortunate team to get knocked out from the T20 World Cup. On Friday, the USA-Ireland match was called off which resulted in the former qualifying for the Super 8 and Pakistan exiting the tournament. On Wednesday, Sri Lanka’s clash with Nepal was also called off which saw the latter drop valuable points. Later on Thursday, Bangladesh’s win over the Netherlands officially knocked out Sri Lanka.
