Pooran smashes 36 runs in an over

Asked to bat first, it was the fourth over of the West Indies innings that saw Pooran run riot as he smashed 36 runs, repeating the feat of Yuvraj Singh from the 2007 edition of the T20 World Cup. However, unlike Yuvraj, Pooran faced seven balls and had the luxury of a free hit in the over bowled by Azmatullah Omarzai of Afghanistan.

The first ball was smashed for a six before a four was hit on the next ball which was also a no ball. The free hit ball was wide and resulted in four byes which saw the free hit stay intact for the second legal delivery of the over. On the free hit delivery, Pooran was bowled but stayed on the field as the batter could not be out. This saw 16 runs yielded from 2 balls with six extra runs added in the process for the West Indies

The second legal ball of the over saw Pooran get bowled out, but since it was a free hit for the previous no-ball he stayed on the field. The next two balls would then disappear for two fours with the first being a leg bye. The last two balls again sailed into the crowd resulting in 36 runs of the over matching the equivalent of Yuvraj Singh when hit Stuart Broad for 6 sixes in an over.

Pooran would later get out for 98 helping West Indies to 218/5 in their 20 overs before Afghanistan were bowled out for 114 in 16.2 overs.
