Bangladesh have recalled experienced batter Sarmin Sultana to their women’s ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka, marking her return to the format after a gap of seven years. The 32-year-old’s inclusion is one of three changes from the squad that featured in the 2025 Women’s World Cup.

Sarmin last played an ODI in November 2019 against Pakistan and has featured in 13 matches so far. She recently represented Bangladesh in the Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars T20 tournament earlier this year, where the team finished runners-up after losing to India in the final.

Joining Sarmin in the squad are offspinner Sultana Khatun and uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Juairiya Ferdous. While Khatun last appeared in an ODI in January 2025, Ferdous is yet to make her ODI debut, having previously played in the T20 World Cup Qualifier in Nepal.

The trio replace Rubya Haider, Nishita Akter and Sumaiya Akter, who have been left out of the squad for the Sri Lanka series.

Bangladesh will be aiming for a fresh start in ODIs after a disappointing campaign in the 2025 World Cup, where they managed just one win in seven matches and finished seventh in the eight-team tournament.

Sri Lanka, meanwhile, will be playing their first-ever bilateral women’s ODI series in Bangladesh. The visitors have historically dominated this fixture, winning their previous ODI series against Bangladesh in Sri Lanka in 2023 and maintaining an unbeaten record in completed matches between the two sides. Their most recent encounter came in the 2025 World Cup, where Sri Lanka edged Bangladesh by seven runs in a closely contested match.

The ODI series will be played in Rajshahi on April 20, 22 and 25. This will be followed by a three-match T20I series scheduled for April 28 and 30, and May 2 in Sylhet.
