After going unsold in IPL 2025, Shaw returns stronger and refreshed, ready to battle for an opening spot with Nissanka and Porel alongside KL Rahul
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Prithvi Shaw is set for a fresh start with Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2026 after a challenging couple of seasons and an unexpected snub at the IPL 2025 auction. The young opener, who struggled for consistency in 2023 and 2024 with just 304 runs in 16 innings, believes that stepping away from the game played a crucial role in rebuilding his mental strength and focus.
Speaking ahead of the new season, Shaw revealed that taking a break allowed him to reset and return with a stronger mindset. He spent time traveling and disconnecting before getting back to his training routine with renewed intensity. According to Shaw, he tripled his efforts in practice and fitness, which has helped him feel more prepared than ever for the upcoming season.
The 26-year-old also addressed the criticism he faced during his dip in form, including being dropped by Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024 and later by Mumbai in domestic cricket. Shaw acknowledged that mistakes are part of being human but emphasized that external opinions only reflect part of the story. To stay focused, he chose to distance himself from social media negativity and instead relied on the support of his family and close friends.
In a significant move, Shaw switched domestic teams from Mumbai to Maharashtra, aiming for a fresh environment to revive his career. The decision appears to have paid off, as he now returns to the IPL with a more positive mindset and hunger to perform.
At Delhi Capitals, Shaw faces stiff competition for the opening slot, with Sri Lankan batter Pathum Nissanka and youngster Abishek Porel also in contention to partner KL Rahul at the top of the order. This internal competition is expected to push all players to perform at their best.
Delhi Capitals, who last reached the playoffs in 2021, will kick off their IPL 2026 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants on April 1 in Lucknow. With a mentally stronger outlook and renewed determination, Prithvi Shaw will be eager to make the most of this opportunity and re-establish himself as a key player in the tournament.
