Georgia Wareham earns back-to-back Player of the Match awards as Australia secure a commanding 90-run win in St Kitts
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Australia continued their dominant run in women’s cricket with a convincing 90-run win over West Indies in the second ODI at St Kitts, sealing an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The victory adds to their already successful tour, having earlier swept the T20I series.
Batting first after winning the toss, Australia posted 269 for 7, recovering well after an early setback. They were reduced to 82 for 4 in the 16th over, with Ashmini Munisar striking twice in two balls to remove Georgia Voll and Ellyse Perry, who recorded just her third golden duck in 166 ODIs. Beth Mooney played a crucial role in stabilizing the innings, forming a 58-run partnership with stand-in captain Tahlia McGrath to bring Australia back on track.
Mooney’s composed knock laid the foundation, while Georgia Wareham added valuable late runs with a quick 39, helping Australia reach a competitive total on a spin-friendly surface.
West Indies began their chase strongly, led by Hayley Matthews, who guided the team to 92 for 1 in 23 overs. However, her dismissal for 45 — shortly after being dropped on 44 — triggered a dramatic collapse that saw the hosts lose 8 wickets for just 36 runs.
Australia’s spinners took full advantage of the turning conditions, with Wareham and Ashleigh Gardner leading the charge. Wareham once again delivered an impressive all-round performance, removing key players Stafanie Taylor and Deandra Dottin in quick succession. Gardner also impressed with three wickets, including a sharp caught-and-bowled dismissal of Qiana Joseph.
Despite a late 49-run partnership between Afy Fletcher and Karishma Ramharack that added some respectability to the score, the result was never in doubt. Tahlia McGrath eventually closed out the match, ensuring a comprehensive victory for Australia.
