Jos Buttler has reaffirmed his ambition to continue representing England despite a disappointing run in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where the team exited in the semi-finals against India national cricket team.

The former white-ball captain endured a difficult tournament with the bat, scoring just 87 runs across eight innings. His struggles extend across recent ICC events, with only one half-century in his last four global tournaments, raising questions about his place in England’s future plans.

However, Buttler, who still has 18 months remaining on his ECB central contract, remains hopeful of earning selection for England’s upcoming white-ball series at home against India, which includes five T20Is and three ODIs. Speaking on his podcast, he admitted there are “no guarantees” but emphasized his desire to return to his best form.

After the World Cup, Buttler took time away from cricket, spending a week in the mountains of France with his family to mentally reset. He described the break as “refreshing” and necessary after a taxing period, allowing him to reflect on his performances and regain clarity ahead of upcoming challenges.

He acknowledged that despite his preparation and effort, things simply did not click during the tournament. Buttler accepted that dips in form are part of the sport and stressed the importance of perspective and resilience in overcoming them.

Looking ahead, Buttler will shift focus to the Indian Premier League, where he is set to represent Gujarat Titans. The tournament offers him an opportunity to rediscover form and build momentum before England’s international fixtures resume.

Buttler also voiced strong support for England’s leadership group, praising captain Harry Brook and head coach Brendon McCullum for fostering a positive and supportive team environment during the World Cup.

He further acknowledged India’s superiority in the tournament, describing them as a “serious team” and deserving champions following their dominant performances in the knockout stages.
