IPL 2024: ‘Rules are rules…’- RCB captain Faf du Plessis on Virat Kohli’s controversial dismissal

RCB captain Faf du Plessis shared his thoughts on Virat Kohli’s controversial dismissal against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024. Bengaluru captain called the whole episode crazy, saying both openers felt the ball was above the waist height.

Speaking to the media shortly after his team’s one-run loss at the hands of KKR at the Eden Gardens, Faf addressed Kohli’s dismissal that made headlines during this tight contest.

Harshit Rana’s dipping full toss found Kohli’s edge as he grabbed it off his bowling to send the RCB star back in the hut. Although from the naked eye, it looked not out with the ball being above the waist height, replays showed that it was dipping and that Kohli was outside of his crease too, giving the benefit of doubt to the fielding team, with the third umpire signalling it out.

That, however, irked Virat Kohli, who argued with the on-field umpires and later walked away in utter disbelief and agony. Kohli’s reaction to his dismissal was enough to tell how he and the RCB camp felt about it.

“It was crazy; rules are rules; Virat and myself thought that the ball was higher than the waist (on Kohli’s dismissal), I guess they measured from the popping crease, one team thinks it’s high, the other doesn’t. That’s how the game goes at times,” Faf told the broadcasters after the game.

‘Proud of the team’

Meanwhile, the RCB might have lost their seventh game this season and the chance to qualify for the playoffs, but Captain Du Plessis sounded pleased with his team’s performance.

Proud of his boys, Faf said his team showed courage and went for the total, like how they approached the previous game against SRH, where they fell shy of the target by 25 runs despite scoring 262 while chasing.

“The small things, I am actually proud of the boys tonight, the way we bowled and fielded, we did give away a couple of big overs towards the end, but I thought we kept them down to a par score. We thought we’ll go hard in the batting Powerplay, and find those boundaries at the start of the innings.

“We were desperate, 10/10 from an effort perspective, the way we put up the effort in the ground, the faces told the story. We’ve got an unbelievable fanbase, we want to make them happy, and we want them to have a smile on their face. We’ll have to continue putting in our efforts and try to change things around,” the RCB captain noted.
