IPL 2024: KKR end away wins jinx in RCB’s backyard with emphatic seven-wicket victory in Bengaluru

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have finally broken the jinx for the first away sides in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Friday (Mar 29) after they beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. KKR beat RCB by seven wickets in their own backyard and registered the first away win by any side in the IPL 2024. Needing 183 runs to win, KKR won the contest with 19 balls to spare as they made a statement.

KKR make light work of RCB bowlers

Needing 183 runs to win the match, KKR openers Phil Salt (30) and Sunil Narine ((47) set the tone as they wreaked havoc with the bat. They scored 53 runs in the first four overs while also scoring 85 in the powerplay. They stitched 86 runs for the opening wicket before Narine was sent back to the pavilion. However, after that Venkatesh Iyer (50) and Shreyas Iyer (unbeaten 39) helped their team to get over the line as they won the one-sided contest.

What happened in RCB’s innings

Batting first, RCB captain Faf du Plessis had another off day after being dismissed for 8. However, his partner Virat Kohli was the hero of the match for the home side. Virat scored an unbeaten 83 which consisted of 4 sixes and 4 fours. Cameron Green also contributed to a well-made 33 while countryman Glenn Maxwell scored 28. Dinesh Karthik was also seen playing his cameo knock and scored 20 off 8 to take RCB to 182/6 in their 20 overs.

Harshit Rana (39/2) and Andre Russell (29/2) were the pick of the bowlers for the away side.

Kolkata next take on Delhi Capitals on Wednesday (April 3) in Vizag which is the latter’s adopted home. KKR along with Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings are the only other unbeaten sides left in the tournament.

RCB on the other hand are in action against Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday in their third consecutive home game of the season. They have so far won one and lost two and won one match in the season.
