Mumbai won the toss, and Hardik elected to bowl first in the side’s tournament opener this season. However, Rahul Tewatia’s 22 off 15 balls in the end helped Gujarat post a fighting total of 168 for six in 20 overs. For Mumbai, ace seamer Jasprit Bumrah was their star bowler, picking three wickets for 14 runs in four overs.

Bowlers keep GT afloat against MI

Ishan Kishan fell early on zero, but former skipper Rohit Sharma and newcomer Naman Dhir piled up runs to bail their side from trouble.

Azmatullah picked his second wicket in Dhir on 20. Impact Player Dewald Brevis and Rohit scored 46 and 43, respectively, putting MI in a strong position.

Tilak Varma and Tim David smashed a few shots to keep the fans entertained, but Gujarat bowlers seemed to have the last laugh.

Be it Mohit Sharma, Spencer Johnson and Umesh Yadav, every one delivered when it mattered.

The penultimate and the last over is where the game changed for GT as they clinched the close win over their rivals by six runs.

In the clash of two sides with the new captains at the helm, Shubman Gill came on the top in the first leg.
