Rajasthan Royals (RR) brutally trolled Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) before beating them by six wickets in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on April 6. RCB rode on Kohli’s record-extending albeit joint-slowest hundred to post 183/3 in 20 overs. The score eventually proved not enough as RR chased it with ease.

After RCB’s innings, RR, from their official X account, posted: “184 sounds good on a day when 200+ was possible,”  alongside an image of Yuzvendra Chahal who returned the figures of 2/34 in four overs.

Kohli, who scored 113 not out off 73 balls, his record-extending albeit joint-slowest century, spoke at length about his team’s performance during the mid-innings break and said: ” Our target initially was 190, 195, to be honest. But then assessing the pitch and how it was slowing down, we decided if one of Faf [du Plessis] or me get out, then the other had to bat till the end so that we can get that boost closer to 180-185, which we did, which I feel is a very effective total on this pitch.”

Kohli’s assessment, however, proved wrong as Royals chased the target with relative comfort in 19.1 overs, thanks to a 58-ball unbeaten 100 by Jos Buttler.

Royals lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early but 148-run partnership between Buttler and skipper Sanju Samson, who scored 42-ball 69, turned the game around. Royals did lose two more quick wickets after Samson’s dismissal but Buttler stayed on till the end and finished off the game with a six. 

This was Rajasthan’s fourth win in as many games to go on top of the points table. RCB, on the other hand, are eighth on the 10-team table with just two points after four losses and one win from five games they have played in the season so far.
