Luis Rubiales faces investigation

Set to face trial in Jenni Hermoso kiss case, Rubiales was in the Dominican Republic for the last few days and upon his arrival in the country, he was taken into a black van by the Madrid Police. It is reported that Rubiales received illegal commissions while negotiating a lucrative deal to stage the Spanish Super Cup competition in Saudi Arabia. The prosecutors are seeking a two-and-a-half-year jail for the controversial figure who has been facing a torrid last few months.

Earlier, the Madrid Police had conducted raids at Rubiales’ residence in Granada – in addition to the RFEF’s headquarters in Madrid. Rubiales has stated he would return to Spain on the first of April from the Dominican Republic and face the investigation.

Rubiales has denied any wrongdoing amid allegations that he benefitted from the deal to take the Supercopa to the Gulf nation, telling La Sexta in an interview due to be aired on Wednesday that his money is “the product of my work and savings.”

Torrid time continues for Rubiales

In January, a Spanish judge proposed that disgraced Rubiales be tried over the kiss he forced on Women’s World Cup star Hermoso. In a ruling following his preliminary investigation, Judge Francisco de Jorge of Spain’s Audiencia Nacional top criminal court concluded that the kiss “was not consensual and was a unilateral and unexpected move” by Rubiales, who is facing charges of sexual assault and coercion.

He also proposed putting three others on trial for subsequently exerting pressure on Hermoso, 33, “to make a public statement confirming the kiss was consensual”: former women’s coach Jorge Vilda, men’s team director Albert Luque and RFEF marketing boss Ruben Rivera.
