When Lewis Hamilton was officially announced to be part of Ferrari from 2025, in February 2024, the development also meant that the Great Britain driver would replace Carlos Sainz. This means Sainz will have no seat in F1 after the ongoing 2024 season, and it remains to be seen which team will pick him in the near future. As per reports, Sainz and Nico Hulkenberg could reunite as teammates as the Sauber F1 team’s owner, Audi, is keen to rope in both the drivers for their future lineup.

The Ferrari driver’s father, Sainz Sr., also features in the Rally Raid series with Audi’s team. As per the Auto Motor und Sport, the German giants are willing to acquire the services of Sainz Jr.
Sainz Jr. recently stunned one and all as he returned to the circuit soon after an appendix surgery and won the Australian Grand Prix, in Melbourne, early this week.

Talking about Hulkenberg, the 36-year-old German returned to F1 with Haas last year. While he featured in a few races as a replacement driver for Racing Point (currently Aston Martin), he wasn’t content there and complained of the team’s car being very slow, hinting at a possible switch. This sparked conversation about him leaving for Audi, especially for also being a German.
It is to be noted that Audi plans to complete the ownership of Sauber F1 team by 2026 season, when the FIA will also grant teams to develop and use their brand-new power units.
