Jannillea Glasgow’s Second Consecutive Fifty Not Enough in 209-Run Chase
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Sri Lanka sealed the ODI series 2-0 after a dramatic and controversial moment saw Deandra Dottin ruled out for obstructing the field during West Indies’ chase of 209. The decisive incident occurred in the 30th over when Dottin attempted a sweep against captain Chamari Athapaththu. The delivery slipped down the leg side and was signalled wide, but after deflecting off wicketkeeper Kaushini Nuthyangana’s pads, the ball looped back toward Dottin. She instinctively tapped it away and caught it, prompting a discussion between umpires Candace la Borde and Vrinda Rathi before she was given out.
The dismissal left West Indies reeling at 116 for 6, and their hopes of levelling the series diminished further when they slipped to 146 for 8. However, Jannillea Glasgow once again showcased her resilience with a fighting half-century — her second in successive matches — to keep the contest alive. She stitched together a crucial 45-run stand for the ninth wicket with Afy Fletcher, briefly threatening a remarkable turnaround before being dismissed as the last batter. Glasgow’s innings ended in style when Kavisha Dilhari completed a brilliant catch at cover, holding on to the rebound.
Sri Lanka’s fielding proved to be a major difference throughout the innings. Hasini Perera produced a sharp slip catch to remove Chinelle Henry, while Nilakshika Silva impressed with a superb take at long-off to dismiss Shawnisha Hector. Their collective effort in the field tightened the pressure at key moments of the chase.
Earlier, Vishmi Gunaratne anchored Sri Lanka’s innings with a composed half-century, guiding her side through steady top-order partnerships that carried them to 166 for 4 in the 36th over. Despite a late collapse that saw six wickets fall for 42 runs — with Karishma Ramharack claiming 3 for 26 — the total of 209 ultimately proved sufficient as Sri Lanka secured the ODI series in convincing fashion.
