Middle-order collapse derails Pretoria Capitals in chase of 189 as SEC cruise to 48-run victory

Half-centuries from de Kock (77) and Breetzke (52) laid a strong foundation for SEC’s innings, helping them post 188 for 5 despite a late slowdown. Although they appeared on course for a 200-plus total, disciplined death bowling from Tymal Mills and Lungi Ngidi, who conceded just 20 runs in the final three overs using well-disguised slower balls, kept the total in check.

That score proved more than enough, as Pretoria Capitals’ chase unraveled dramatically, led by a destructive spell from Adam Milne, who claimed 4 for 25.

De Kock, Breetzke stitch crucial 116-run stand

After Ngidi removed Jonny Bairstow in the second over, de Kock and Breetzke seized control of the innings with an authoritative partnership. SEC raced to 64 runs in the powerplay, striking five sixes, four of them off de Kock’s bat.

One standout stroke came in the fourth over when de Kock leaned into a length ball wide of off stump from Ngidi and effortlessly lofted it over mid-off. De Kock reached his fifty off just 29 balls, while Breetzke, after a measured start, accelerated sharply to reach his half-century in 30 deliveries.

By the time de Kock was stumped for 77 off 47 balls in the 14th over, SEC were firmly in control and eyeing a massive total.
