Another chapter in this series of low-scoring matches at this year’s event was between Nepal and Bangladesh, and it was no short of entertainment. Batting first after losing the toss, Bangladesh were reduced to 30 for four inside the Powerplay, with the top-order failing to click yet again.

Veteran pair of Shakib al Hasan and Mahmudullah managed a few runs, including hitting two fours each but Nepal was all over their opponents. With almost everyone contributing with the ball in hand, Nepal dismissed Bangladesh on a mere 106.

Nepal crumble, again!

Still not over the loss at the hands of South Africa a couple of days ago, Nepal had another tight chase waiting in the wings. Much like how the Bangladesh inning unfolded earlier, Nepal suffered the same fate, as they lost five wickets upfront, with seamer Tanzim Hasan Sakib picking four wickets for just seven runs.

Kushal Malla and Dipendra Singh Airee tried saving the sinking ship but failed to hold on to it for longer, as Mustafizur Rahman launched a late attack to win the match and seal the Super 8 berth for Bangladesh.

In their Group A fixtures in the next round, Bangladesh will face India, Afghanistan and Australia.

Sri Lanka finish tournament on high

Down and out on all fronts, the Sri Lankan Team had something for their fans to cheer, as they won their final group game of this tournament against the Netherlands.

Batting first, Sri Lanka lost Pathum Nissanka on zero but marched on a lottery run afterwards. Kusal Mendis (46), Dhananjaya de Silva (34) and Charith Asalanka (46) scored in the middle order before Angelo Matthews (30*) and Captain Wanindu Hasaranga (20*) ended the inning on high (210 for six) with handy contributions.

The Netherlands were never in the run chase, though Michael Levitt and Scott Edwards top scored with 31 each.

Sri Lanka’s bowling has been their standout aspect, with youngsters contributing big time. While Nuwan Thushara returned with three wickets, Hasaranga and Matheesha Pathirana picked two each.

Sri Lanka wrapped up their inning on 118, winning the match by 83 runs.
