England Lions began their 50-over series against Pakistan Shaheens in dominant fashion, securing a commanding nine-wicket victory in Abu Dhabi. A disciplined bowling display, led by Calvin Harrison and James Coles, set up a comfortable run chase that was completed with 25.4 overs to spare.

After being put under pressure by the Lions’ bowling unit, Pakistan Shaheens were bowled out for just 152. The spin duo of Harrison (3 for 37) and Coles (2 for 25) played a crucial role, claiming five wickets between them to derail the Shaheens’ innings. All six Lions bowlers contributed with at least one wicket, highlighting a well-rounded team performance.

Pakistan Shaheens’ innings collapsed dramatically as they lost their last six wickets for only 32 runs. The turning point came in the 29th over when Harrison struck twice to swing the momentum firmly in England’s favour. Abdul Samad top-edged a sweep that was safely taken at midwicket by Coles, while Saad Baig fell soon after, with Ben McKinney completing a sharp one-handed catch at slip. Coles later wrapped up the innings by trapping Ahmed Daniyal plumb in front.

Chasing a modest target of 153, England Lions openers Asa Tribe and Ben McKinney made their intentions clear from the outset. The pair stitched together a fluent 77-run opening stand, effectively taking the game away from Pakistan Shaheens. McKinney scored an aggressive 42 off 41 balls, including two towering sixes, before being stumped by a delivery that kept low.

Tribe anchored the innings with a composed unbeaten half-century. The Glamorgan batter finished on 52 not out from 64 balls, displaying maturity and control throughout the chase. He was well supported by James Rew, who remained unbeaten on 48 off 41 deliveries. The duo added an unbroken 87-run partnership to seal the victory in emphatic style.

With this win, England Lions maintain their perfect record on tour, having already whitewashed the T20 series 3-0. The second match of the five-game 50-over series will also be played in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, where the Lions will look to extend their lead and continue their strong run of form.
