Batting first, New Zealand piled up a commanding 303 for 6 in 50 overs, with Kerr playing a crucial anchoring role. The star allrounder scored a composed 80 off 106 balls, striking ten boundaries to stabilise the innings and build the platform for a big total.
Maddy Green provided the acceleration in the middle overs with an impressive 94 off 73 deliveries, smashing 12 fours, while Brooke Halliday added a useful 40 to keep the momentum going. A late cameo from wicketkeeper Izzy Gaze, who remained unbeaten on 18, pushed the hosts beyond the 300-run mark.
For Zimbabwe, Christabel Chatonzwa was the most successful bowler with 2 for 48, while Tendai Makusha, Adel Zimunu and Precious Marange picked up one wicket each.
Chasing 304 for victory, Zimbabwe struggled from the outset and were eventually bowled out for 103 in 27.1 overs. Loreen Tshuma top-scored with 34 off 41 balls, but regular wickets prevented the visitors from building any meaningful partnerships.
New Zealand’s bowlers kept tight control, with Rosemary Mair taking 2 for 16, while Nensi Patel chipped in with 1 for 16.
Kerr then returned to deliver the decisive blow, tearing through the lower order with a stunning spell of 5 for 22 in just 3.1 overs. She also produced a memorable hat-trick in the 24th over, dismissing Audrey Mazvishaya, Tendai Makusha and Nomvelo Sibanda in consecutive deliveries to wrap up the innings.
Her outstanding all-round display earned Kerr both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards. She finished the ODI series with 140 runs and 16 wickets, marking a perfect start to her tenure as New Zealand’s white-ball captain.
New Zealand will next host South Africa women’s national cricket team for a five-match T20I series followed by three ODIs, beginning on March 15.
