Team India has continued their unbeaten in the ongoing T20 World Cup in the West Indies as they beat Bangladesh by 50 runs to move a step closer to the semifinal. Riding on the excellent bowling from Kuldeep Yadav (19/3) and Hardik Pandya’s unbeaten 50 saw the Men in Blue go top of the Super 8 group. A win in the final Super 8 Group 1 match will see India book back-to-back semis spot at the T20 World Cup.

Kuldeep leads India to win

Chasing 197 runs to win, Bangladesh got off to a promising start before they lost wickets at consistent intervals. Tanzid Hasan (29) and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (40) built the only meaningful partnership of the innings. Rishad Hossain (24 off 10) was the only other batter to help Bangladesh stay in the chase before Kuldeep’s dominance with the ball. His three wickets helped India establish a firm grip on the match with both Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah also scalping two wickets each.

What happened in the Indian innings?

Asked to bat first, after the disappointing dismissal of Rohit, Virat Kohli also failed to impress as he was dismissed for 37 off 28 after the powerplay ended. Suryakymar Yadav then had an entertaining couple of minutes in the middle having scored a six on the first ball of his innings and then was dismissed on the very next ball by Tanzim Hasan Sakib. Rishabh Pant (36 off 24), however, made his presence felt in the middle and played an important knock to take India to 196/5 in their 20 overs.

Shivam Dube (34 off 24) and Hardik Pandya (50 off 27) laid the foundation for India’s big score while Axar Patel (3) was also in the middle. For Bangladesh Rishad Hossain and Tanzim Hasan Sakib scalped two wickets each while Shakib Al Hasan bagged one wicket.

India next face Australia on Monday (June 24) where they will have to win considering there are chances of rain in the Men in Blues semifinal in Guyana on June 27. Bangladesh on the other hand will face Afghanistan on the same day as it could be a dead rubber considering they both could be knocked out if the latter loses to Australia on Sunday morning.
